This wiki has the Cite extension installed, which adds two new tags, <ref>, and <references />, to allow creating references on a page.

Full documentation is available on MediaWiki.org, but the basic usage is as follows:

  • To create a new reference that cannot be reused (meaning that if the same source is used again the entire reference needs to be typed out again) use <ref>Some source used only once...</ref>
  • To create a new reference that can be reused, add a name attribute to the first usage, <ref name="demo1">Source that is reused...</ref>
  • To reuse a reference previously defined, use the same name attribute - the text inside should be omitted, or match the original, otherwise an error will be shown: <ref name="demo1" />
  • To display the references used, add <references />

Example source[edit | edit source]

Below, the following wikitext is rendered to demonstrate the output:

The earth is flat.<ref name="flatearth">'''About''' Flat Earth Truth. https://example.com</ref>
Some people think the earth is round.<ref>'''Misconceptions''' Flat Earth Truth. https://example.com</ref>
They are wrong.<ref name="flatearth" />
